A
100-year-old historical bank facility and heritage building
hosts this COS store in Zürich. Located in one of the most popular
shopping streets of the city: the Bahnhofstrasse. The 600m2 space
was remodelled under the strict supervision of Swiss monument
Protection, and the main goal was to preserve as many original
features as possible.
Upon entrance, one finds the unique and restored terracotta columns and main hall for the former Swiss People’s Bank (SVB). Among other original features are the marble mosaic flooring, the metal-works and the striking vault in the basement, where the men’s collection is exhibited. The newly remodelled outstanding architectural features create a bold contrast with the brand’s identity.
The intervention on the groundfloor includes a stand alone volume that appears mysterious at the end of the main room. The customer will only know that the fitting rooms are located there once they have wondered around the shop. The space is dark and cosy, as a contrast with the big open space of the main hall.
The scale of the space requires bigger gestures, that’s why the small floral arrangements dotted in the store become trees for this store.
